Hawker Hurricane MkIa S.No. V7467, 242 Squadron, RAF Coltishall
The Hawker Hurricane MkIa Serial No.V7467 recreated in this new Microaces kit is a replica of the aircraft flown by the famous British Ace fighter pilot Douglas Bader. At the time Bader was Squadron Leader of 242 Squadron. Despite losing both of his legs in a pre-war flying accident, his determination and sheer bloody mindedness saw him return to frontline combat in 1940, promoted to Squadron Leader in June of that year.
The Hurricane itself was a British single-seat fighter aircraft designed in the late 1930s by Hawker Aircraft Ltd for the Royal Air Force. It was a robust and versatile fighter with a combination of fabric-covered steel tube airframe and aluminium clad cowl and wings. Powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine it was a fast and agile; a modern fighter of its time. It is best known for its pivotal role during the Battle of Britain in 1940, where it even outperformed the Supermarine Spitfire in the number of enemy aircraft destroyed. Throughout WWII the Hurricane was highly effective in both air-to-air combat and ground-attack roles, in all theatres of operation.
The Microaces Hurricane kit builds into a stunning 1/20th scale model with a 600mm (23.6”) wingspan, manually retractable scale undercarriage and fully functional ailerons, elevator and rudder. It comprises of sheets of laser cut 2mm foam that makes up the majority of the airframe (fuselage, wings and tail), sheets of pre-printed and pre-cut Tyvek that forms the highly detailed skin of the aircraft plus a whole host of other parts including resin 3D printed details including pilot, vac formed reinforcement components, laser cut plywood, carbon fibre, magnets, control wires and 6" propellor.
Also included in the kit is the electronic componentry that control the aircraft, including 4 micro servos and brushless motor. The recommended receiver is currently FREE and INCLUDED* with the kit and is available in a number of different protocols to suit your transmitter.
