Microaces Airco DH.2 'William Curphey'

The Airco DH.2 was designed by none other than Geoffrey de Havilland, taking its first flight in 1915. The rear mounted prop provided great forward vision and, of course, prior to the invention of the interrupter mechanism, resolved the problem of forward facing armament shooting off the prop!

At its introduction to WWI, the DH.2 successfully put an end to the period known as the Fokker Scourge, countering the dominance of the Fokker Eindecker in the late summer of 1915.

Scotsman, William Curphey was one of the original pilots of 32 Squadron, which was posted with its Airco DH.2s to the Battle of the Somme in France on 28 May 1916. He scored six wins between 22 August 1916 and 7 February 1917.

On the 14th May 1917, Curphey was shot down by Leutnant Franz Walz as the German ace's seventh victory. Curphey's plane was 20 feet from a crashlanding when it burst into flames. He died of the resulting burns the following day, in a German field hospital in Bouchain.

The Microaces DH.2 comes complete with a vac-formed nose and a spinning Gnome Monosoupape dummy rotary engine kit, that adds an incredible level of mechanical detail to this astounding model.  

Servos, Motor and prop INCLUDED in Kit

Due to the diminuitive size of the DH.2 fuselage, the kit employs an inventive method of control. To operate the tail feathers there is a specific arrangement of linear pull servos hooked up to a super micro receiver. The servos are included in the standard kit. The receiver is a sold seperately so you can choose the required protocol to match your transmitter.

The kit also includes a long shaft motor/gearbox to accomodate the spinning , dummy rotary engine and a 2 bladed 4.5" pusher prop.

The DH2 has little room for electronics, so the right equipment for the job is definitly our Super Micro Receiver (with integrated ESC) at only 1.1g. It is now available in all the protocols listed below. Choose the receiver compatible with your transmitter to complete the kit for flight!
